June is a special time of year.  Normally it is a time for drinking lemonade, sticking your naked feet into the creek, and spending a weekend indoors with a bunch of sweet nerds.  At Gamers Anonymous, we’re preparing this year to be among the best experiences you’ve ever had as a human being.

RGL: We Are the Champions

Posted on April 21st, 2012 by Sack

Oh wow. Today is one of those days. Those GOOD days. Today is the last day of RGL (and that’s not what makes it good), but on the last days of our season, we do great things.  Today, we are getting a chance to go head to head with a couple replica cart copies of the Nintendo World Championship, a game that throws three games in the mix and has a set of dipswitches built in so you can adjust the time that you have to play all three of them. The nitty gritty comes after this break.

Review: Journey

Posted on April 12th, 2012 by Sack

When I had first heard about Journey, I was intrigued. The presentation looked like it was something that would fit hand-in-hand with some of my favorite Sony classics (you won’t hear me cite too many of those), the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus games. They weren’t just games, they were experiences, and in my mind, they were art. Journey had done nothing but get solid reviews across the board, and I wanted to know what made it so special. After it had come out a few weeks ago, I decided last night was the night to get into it. Was it fantastic? I thought so. Was it flawed? In one large way, yes.

Xenoblade: Put up or Shut up!

Posted on April 6th, 2012 by Koop

Xenoblade made it to America today and it’s time to pay the piper. Nintendo and Gamestop really took the bullet for us gamers to localize a title, and in all honesty I don’t blame Nintendo for being hesitant in the first place. Localization isn’t cheap, things like promotion, region mapping, and distribution can determine if a product even worth releasing. Nintendo heard you, and they heard me, this is a new era not just in gaming but in media, how many times can we the minority say our voice changed the corporate mind? We voiced our wants, begged for localization and we got it! BUT…. Are you going to go buy it? Are you going to make excuses like “I imported it”, or “I pirated it”? I can understand the reluctance to buy a game if you already own its European counter part or pirated it, but if you signed that petition, if you made your voice heard, I think we owe it to Nintendo. NOA have committed to us, (their fans), now let’s fallow through with our promise to buy it!

It’s Hip To Be Square Part2

Posted on April 2nd, 2012 by Koop

Entitlement is a right; It’s an idea of the amount in which something is owed, literally it’s the right to benefits promised. What it’s not is a free pass to judge a product and its creator’s integrity, what it’s not is the right to spread malicious accusations, death threats, and belittle artists who spend years of their sweat and tears making a product, of course for profit, but also enjoyment. Another right is the right to share likes and dislikes, the strong debate, and arguments based on foundation, supported by level headed facts. We should all have the right to say “ET is a fantastic game”, or “half-life 2 was terrible” without immediately being judged. I find the idea of Bioware succumbing to their fans as not being a “service” but the worst possible idea that has ever hit gaming, by allowing gamers do dictate what publisher’s release, shallows the pool. Why have a grand idea, or even try to express yourself? Why waste your time? This sets a new precedence, no publisher is willing to take risks anymore, and why should they when spoiled gamers cry and flood the internet till they get what they want?
