So, last night, I sat down and checked out a Netflix video that many people had been mentioning: Being Elmo. It’s basically the story of Kevin Clash, puppeteer and voice of Elmo, as he rose to fame through a passion that absolutely burned in his soul.
The story doesn’t exactly focus on him now, but it touches up on where he is. The most prominent element of the video was how Kevin, as a child, fell in love with the idea of becoming a puppeteer. So much so that his burning desire took him to heights that were beyond the wildest dreams of where he ever thought he’d get to as just a small, but passionate, fan of puppets and their purpose.

From the moment I saw this game at E3 2011, I knew I was in love. From the demo that they had shown, it had every single element in a game that works with my tastes. Loud music and crisp sound effects, a distinct visual style, some action elements combined with Quick Time Events, and some of the most over the top presentation I’d ever seen.

Again, stressed right now. There’s always something to be thinking about, though perhaps stress, like worry, doesn’t do me any good. Finding a way to look into an issue and understand it so that resolve can come about isn’t always easy, and I guess that’s where this stress comes from. Sigh.

Last week, I got a call from some folks when I was at the store. “Hi, we heard you were the best video game store in the southwest, and we want to work with you on something.” Oh? Well, yeah. We are. I mean, I’d like to think so.

For many, 2012 looks to be a promising year. Games like mass effect 3, kid Icarus, Paper Mario 3ds, and WiU are my personal most anticipated. One of my favorite games “Star Trek Online” became free to play this year, and doubled its user base. With all this you could say I’m all set for gaming goodness however, you would be wrong. I have found it hard to jump into console gaming as of late; every time I start I simply walk away. Every game seems dry and recycled. Even mass effect 3, the latest in one of my favorite franchises just doesn’t seem all that appealing. There are plenty of “no more fps” articles around and I won’t add to that, and the point I’m trying to make is gaming, in my opinion at least, has become very stale. The biggest games are sequels and tired ones at that. Every RPG is another fantasy churned grind fest governed by an elitist fan base that insists on telling everyone what a RPG “SHOULD” be. Developers are being forced to reach into their own pockets to produce originality and even to us gamers for support such as double fine is doing. Gaming has become a predictable medium now, and much like music, and other parts of the media industry, publishers no longer need to take risks to define the genre, they can now bank on a making a space shooter with end of the world recycled story, or Elve fantasy RPG.

Sorry about lack of updates, again.
Friends know this, and it’s not something I choose to lay on everyone I know, but I do very much try to keep my personal life out of business. I have been scarce and distant recently, just trying to keep things in my personal life together. I won’t go into details, specifcs, and such, but there are times when Jon from the store who loves games, cats, gross humor, and friends, disappears for a bit. Not that it isn’t who I am, but I also am a counselor to certain people in my life. I wouldn’t say I’ve had a rough life, but sure, like any person, you go through tough trials and tribulations (Phoenix Wright LOL) to provide you with experience and understanding of the world as you are able to discover on your own time.
