Review: Dead Island

Posted on October 31st, 2011 by Sack

Dead Island is definitely a name that had a lot to live up to.  After the first cinematic teaser that showed up earlier this year, there was going to be a lot for this game to live up to, as you had something pulling at your heartstrings, and we call that “Dead little girls that fought their dad and became zombies that weren’t allowed to be in the game.”  But with such a critically acclaimed, and genuinely well put together piece of game cinema, would the game be able to live up to the hype?  Well, I’ll tell you.

LAN Retro Tournament #2 – Goldeneye

Posted on October 29th, 2011 by Sack

Oh man, was this a fun one.  Basically, we started off a round of Goldeneye with 10 kills in the Temple with automatics. During this time, 26 people managed to sign up for the tournament, and even with 13 initial rounds, it managed to be a pretty long time for matches, because most people ended up grabbing KLOBBS, and you know that those are less effective than throwing your hand at your opponent.  After that, round two was filled with Power Weapons in the Facility, first to 5 kills. That sped things up until Round 3.  Ever done 1-hit kills with slapping only?  Probably, but likely not for a tournament.  After that hot round, it came down to our semi finals, 1 hit kill pistols in the Complex, followed only by another 1 hit kill round for the finals, Knives in the Bunker.  After much screaming, hooting, hollering, and a lot of sweaty thighs, Xenia Onatopp managed to topple Jaws, and Theo, local hero and construction worker (on websites), ended up the victor.  A great reception to a classic game, and we couldn’t ask for much more.  Great works, guys!  Let’s get more going today!

LAN Retro Game Tournament #1 – Gradius

Posted on October 29th, 2011 by Sack

Hot. Like icy hot, but in your butt crack. That’s what the Gradius tournament was. An NES classic, for certain, but only one winner could be found. Who was it? Check out this score sheet and see who rocked it.  Each player was allowed two continues, and had to make the best of those few, precious lives.  Theo and Derek walked away winners, but there were some OTHER very good scores.  What is coming up next? You know that we at GA are in love with Keith.  We made a SHIRT about him, after all.  Whatever the case, here’s his latest video, for you to witness live in your own room!  Just make sure you’re shirtless.

Intel Lan Fest Halloween 2011!

Posted on October 28th, 2011 by Sack

Twice a year, something magical happens. This year, the second magical thing is happening. At the Intel building out in Rio Rancho, Gamers Anonymous is once again helping sponsor the console lounge area with LAN Fest. Basically, it’s a group activity that sells out VERY quickly, but gets 180 PC gamers and a good handful of console gamers to come down and hang out for a straight 48 hours to play video games. Kirby’s Return To Dreamland: A Response

Posted on October 27th, 2011 by Sack

Having just picked up Kirby’s Return to Dreamland for the Wii a few days ago, I was glowing like TCRI ooze with anticipation, as I was going to get the chance to play Kirby, the way people have always wanted it, on the Wii. 4 player action, traditional, simplistic platforming, and a good deal of charm. Did it deliver? So far, absolutely. So, I was surprised to find that there have been articles online plastered with gigantic “NO DON’T BUY THIS GAME” propaganda. Read more »

Rockman Mini Figures

Posted on October 26th, 2011 by Sack

It’s hard work being a sucker, let me tell you. But thanks to eBay (of pigs), I was able to throw a bunch of money away working on collecting even more useless Mega Man stuffs. So, provided I can get these for a decent price, I’d love to order these for the store. Whoda thunk it?

RGL Video: F-Zero

Posted on October 26th, 2011 by Sack

So, what we like to do at the RGL is play games.  Good thing we have a lot to play. In a few weeks, Nov 5th, specifically, we are doing a mystery game and F-Zero for the SNES. To commemorate, I made a quick, and average, video, of me playing F-Zero.  While being far from the best score on that course, I thought it would be kinda cool just to make a video!
