Gears of War 3: Video Review

Posted on November 2nd, 2011 by Koop

Gears of war has always been a secret favorite of mine, and with the recent release of Gears of War 3 it still holds true. I don’t know if it’s the cast of multicultural characters or the fact that finally a character of Hispanic origin isn’t portrayed as some type of cliché, a gangster, and mindless criminal. The series hardly comes across as a prominent force in video game story telling, but anyone who knows me, knows that story is above visuals but below game play.

Favorite Boss Battles: Sasuke vs. Itachi

Posted on September 17th, 2012 by Ultimo

Hey guys, Ultimo here again with a new video series on the GAretro YouTube channel. I love boss battles; many times they are my favorite parts of a game. Not all boss battles are created equal. Some are hard; some are easy. Some have multiple phases; some have you memorize attack patterns. Then some even manage to leave a major impact on you and become the key moment you always remember when you think back on a game. We all have a favorite boss, and whether our reason for liking it is the game play, presentation, the music, or the significance in the game’s story. Or sometimes your enemy has been taunting you the entire game, and this is your one chance to settle the score once and for all in a final battle royal! Boss battles are epic. The first boss that i would like to highlight in this series actually comes from a game based on a popular anime series. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is one of the few anime games I have played where I have gotten exactly what I wanted. The control is tight, the graphics are beautiful, and it manages to present the story better than most games games I have played that are based around an anime. There is even an option to change the voice-overs to the original Japanese cast; which I find much less annoying than the localized cast. Every boss battle in this game is worth mentioning, but in the end my favorite has got to the epic fight for revenge between the two Uchiha brothers: Sasuke and Itachi. **Major Spoiler Alert** This fight is shown in full in the video below. Stay tuned for my next video in my “Favorite Boss Battles” series next week where I take a look at Kirby’s Adventure for the NES. That’s it for now but until next time keep leveling up gamers!

I find that it works out in my favor to play games that other people might not want to play.  I’ve also found that when I do so with someone who I find to be hilarious, the results are extremely good. That is the reason why I am continuing to do thorough Let’s Play videos with my good friend Pat!  Previously bringing you a hot session of 19-steamy episodes for Aliens Colonial Marines, we have been focusing our recent efforts on The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct for the XBox 360.  While the game isn’t perfect by any stretch, we’re having a good time, and hope to bring you laughter and tears as you join us on an unforgettable journey to a bunch of very forgettable southern towns that are dealing with the Zombie outbreak.

Check out Episode 1 below, and be sure to watch the whole playlist to catch up with all the necessary drama and find out if your favorite characters are dead!

Sunday FUNDAY

No, not the NES game, but I’ve got a few videos here for you and some other stuff for you guys to see! First, I had a great time on the 8-Bit show a few days ago talking with Franky, and we had a few guest artists that we had a ton of fun with! Check this out.

ADDITIONALLY, I have finally finished the Bionic Commando Let’s Play video set, and I will just go ahead and link the whole playlist right here, as that will make it easier for you folks! Check it after the break! Read more »

Alright, alright. So, my defense of Bionic Commando article may not have been enough to convince you that my favorite game of this generation is worth playing.  Of course, a 4.99 price tag at most GameStops may ALSO not be quite enough to convince you, so I decided to do the only thing I could — make a Let’s Play video of me going through the WHOLE game, and right here is the first hour.  Joining me in this entire endeavor is one of the few people I know of that also enjoyed the game!  His name is Joe. He used to work for me.  Here is his address, phone number, and social security.  Actually, I’ll just give you a link to HIS podcast. http://www.facebook.com/PodcastBeta.  There.  Enjoy all the videos after the cut!

Review: Borderlands 2

Posted on October 15th, 2012 by Ocelot

When the first borderlands came out, I had mixed feelings about it and ended up not purchasing it. When Borderlands 2 was released, I actually got more interested in playing the game. I was still on the fence about it until a week before the release and then I finally decided to buy it. The story takes place 5 years after the previous game, where a man named Handsome Jack is ruling over Pandora. There is news of a Large Vault that is hidden on Pandora that has been attracting vault hunters to visit this world. This is where you come into the story. (Just remember that I haven’t played the first one, so I will be talking about just Borderlands 2.) Let’s see if this game is paradise or just an empty wasteland. Read more »

Impressions: Resident Evil 6

Posted on October 4th, 2012 by Sack

While I certainly didn’t expect this, I have been seeing that MetaCritic scores have been apparently all over the place for Resident Evil 6, which just came out for the public today (as of time of writing). Now, I haven’t delved into everyone one of these reviews yet, so I can’t say for certain if all of these bad-mouthing rounds are justified, but I am popping into the title, with only the experience of the Dragon’s Dogma demo, and have been doing absolutely nothing except for having a blast with it.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron Review

Posted on September 7th, 2012 by Geist

When I was growing up I was absolutely enamored with Transformers.  When it was on the television I could scarcely be expected to do anything but watch Optimus Prime and his Autobots fight Megatron and the Decepticons.  As I grew older I watched the new incarnations of the Transformers I loved and I always wanted to play a game where I could be all of my favorites from both sides.  When Transformers: War for Cybertron came out I waited to buy it because I was afraid it would be a terrible game just like the others that had come before it, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well it played.  I could hardly wait for the inevitable sequel to be announced and released.  Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is that sequel and it was everything I could have hoped for.

Autobots transform and roll out!

Review: Lego Batman 2: DC Superheroes

Posted on August 10th, 2012 by Geist

Ever since Batman: Arkham City came out and all the DLC and story was taken care of, I have been going through some pretty serious Batman withdrawls.  This game was able to give me just what I needed to get my fix.  Plus there was the added bonus of more DC superheroes than I could shake a stick at– and Legos!
